Lidocaine Hydrochloride Hydrate

Introduction of Lidocaine Hydrochloride Hydrate: Guidelines for 2% Lidocaine Injections

Purpose

  1. Anesthesia: Suitable for epidural, infiltration, surface anesthesia, or nerve block procedures.
  2. Internal Medical Use: Effective in treating ventricular arrhythmias.

Dosage & Administration

  • Anesthesia: Dosage adjustments should be made based on patient response and site of administration. Employ the lowest concentration and smallest effective dose. Dosage varies based on factors like anesthetic technique, tissue vascularity, and individual tolerance.
  • Lidocaine Hydrochloride Hydrate for Adults: Caution is advised to avoid excessive local anesthetic doses. The maximum dose for healthy adults is 200 mg.
    1. Epidural: 40 to 200 mg per instance (max. dose: 200 mg as Lidocaine HCl)
    2. Nerve Block: 30 to 200 mg per instance (max. dose: 200 mg as Lidocaine HCl), 60 to 120 mg for support nerve block
    3. Infiltration: 40 to 200 mg per instance (max. dose: 200 mg as Lidocaine HCl)
    4. Surface: Apply a moderate dose topically.
  • Dosage Adjustments: Consider age, anesthetic areas, body parts, tissues, symptoms, and overall health conditions.

Lidocaine Hydrochloride Hydrate for Internal Medical Use

  • Adults: Single intravenous dose of 50 to 100 mg (1 to 2 mg/kg) as Lidocaine HCl, administered slowly over 1 to 2 minutes. Repeat if necessary, but the total dose within 1 hour should not exceed 300 mg.
  • I.V. Instillation: For prolonged effect, administer via I.V. instillation with continuous ECG monitoring, at a rate of 1 to 2 mg per minute (max rate: 4 mg/min).

Composition

Each 1 mL contains Lidocaine HCl (USP): 21.330 mg (Lidocaine HCl anhydrous 20 mg), Sodium chloride (KP): 9 mg, Sodium hydroxide (KP), and Water for injection.

Storage & Shelf-life
