Belissima is an injectable collagen stimulator made from PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) microspheres, a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer that has been in clinical use for more than two decades. Each vial contains 365 mg of PLLA and is prepared to 5 ml before injection into the subcutaneous layer.

What is inside

The single active is poly-L-lactic acid in microsphere form, referred to by the maker as PLLA MS. One vial holds 365 mg, and the finished preparation is 5 ml. It is placed beneath the skin in the subcutaneous plane.

Preparing the product

Before use, the powder is reconstituted with water for injection (WFI) together with lidocaine. The prepared suspension is then placed in the subcutaneous plane by the practitioner.

Formulation

Once injected, the PLLA microspheres take up water and act on fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen. Over the following period, new collagen forms around the particles, while the PLLA itself is slowly absorbed by the body. The effect therefore builds gradually rather than appearing as an immediate volume change, which is the key difference from hyaluronic acid gels.
