Juvederm Volbella

Allergan launched Juvederm Volbella in 2013 as a fine, transparent hyaluronic acid gel with lidocaine. It is designed mainly for lip work and for delicate lines around the mouth and eyes, where a soft, evenly spreading gel is needed. It is manufactured in France by Allergan.

Formulation

  • Hyaluronic acid content of 15 mg/ml, cross-linked using the Vycross process
  • 0.3% lidocaine, equal to 3 mg/ml of the hydrochloride salt
  • Buffered with phosphate to a pH of 7.2
  • Monophasic, clear gel with a smooth, uniform consistency

Vycross joins hyaluronic acid chains of different lengths, short and long, in one network. Allergan states that this keeps the gel within the dermis and that its controlled water uptake limits swelling after injection.

Areas of application

The directions for use group the gel's work into three settings, each with its own depth:

  • Fine lines and moderate depressions, placed in the upper or middle dermis
  • Lip definition, symmetry and volume in thin lips, placed in the lip mucosa
  • The tear trough below the eye, placed beneath the muscle or just above the bone (pre-periosteal)

Pack contents

Every box contains two graduated pre-filled 1 ml syringes and four sterile single-use 32G ½" needles. The gel is sterilised with moist heat and the needles with radiation.

Handling and storage

Keep the boxes at room temperature or cooler, within 2–25 °C. Volume and technique for each area are decided by the practitioner.
